Kathy had already worked with Timbuktu in the Valley, so she reached out to them to find out whether mothers were needing to work, and if so whether they would they be available to make masks. A production team was quickly assembled and the first masks were made and distributed to families in the Valley. To keep up with demand for masks Kathy also works with tailors in other parts of the city.
When Kathy heard about the Food Kitchens taking place in the Valley she immediately offered to hand out masks at the kitchens. To date over 1 500 masks have been given to people in the neighbourhood. The masks come in all colours and styles, with masks for adults and easy-to-wear, fun masks for kids. As cloth masks are a new phenomenon, it is important that wearers are educated in both wear and care. The MASKS4GOOD team take time to talk to people as they wait to pick up their food, and to fit the masks carefully, explaining how to wash and care for both masks and their own health. The team engages especially with the children, sharing sweet treats and using fun techniques to educate them about the hygiene requirements to guard against C-19 transmission.
